Ladakh is one of India’s most spectacular regions, and its altitude deserves respect. A little planning makes the trip far more comfortable.
Give your body time
Leh sits at roughly 3,500 metres. Most travellers rest for the first one to two days, drink plenty of water, eat lightly and avoid strenuous activity or alcohol on arrival.
Build the route in the right order
Visit sights close to Leh first, then go higher to places such as Nubra Valley or Pangong Lake once you have adjusted.
Check the season and the roads
High passes and some routes are open only for part of the year, and conditions can change. We check current road and weather updates before and during your trip.
Talk to your doctor
If you have a heart, lung or blood pressure condition, or are travelling with older family members or young children, speak to your doctor before booking.
